Born 1965, Haifa, Israel. Lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Miri Segal’s work is guided by the principle of cyclicality, exploring the movement between the existing and the revealed, between reality and reconstruction. Her practice evokes a mirage-like quality: disorientation, the loss and reestablishment of reference points, and the shaping of the invisible through a protocol that is both self-evident and playful. Viewers are invited to navigate this intermediate space, deciding whether to engage with the inverted image before them or the “right” image at their feet. Segal’s work emphasizes the inherent dualities in every situation, condition, or object, prompting the audience to consider their own position and perspective—underscoring that art is, ultimately, a question of point of view.
Segal has held numerous solo exhibitions at institutions including the Barbican Centre (London), MoMA PS1 (New York City), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Haifa Museum of Art, and Circle 1 – Platform for Art & Culture (Berlin). She has also participated in group exhibitions at Musée National d’Art Moderne — Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris), Total Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Israel Museum (Jerusalem), Kunsthalle Wien (Vienna), Museum of Art Lucerne, and Petach Tikva Museum of Art.
Her accolades include the Mendel and Eva Pundik Prize (Tel Aviv Museum of Art, 2009) and the Centre International d’Accueil et d’Échanges des Récollets, Paris, Artist-in-Residence Award, granted by the City of Paris and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2005).
