Bri Williams born 1993, Long Beach, United States. Lives and works in Oakland, USA.
Duality is omnipresent in Bri Williams's work, reflecting on the nature of existence and the inherent conflicts within the human experience. By transforming organic materials like flowers in their sculpture ‘Dunce Cap’, Williams bridges the gap between the tangible and the intangible, the ephemeral and the enduring.
The contrast between the delicate flowers and the harsh dunce cap creates a dialogue about vulnerability, resilience. The flower, in a state of decay, on the verge of oblivion, is here preserved, as if frozen in time—but also emergs from this symbol of discipline as a force of natural freedom, one that can never truly be restrained.
