In her photographic series 'Untitled (Body Wall)' (2012–ongoing), Naama Tsabar explores the act of braking through boundaries and reclaiming space. The photographs feature the artist penetrating white walls of her studio with various body parts through holes tailored to their anatomy. This series speaks directly to female empowerment, reclaiming space and the ability to inhabit a void that Tsabar usurps. The continuity of the project which requires the artist to drill holes in her studio holds a promise that at a certain point these physical walls will come down completely.
This inherently violent act appears here free of aggression it is rather sensual and poetic.
In ‘Untitled (Body Wall)’ series, a female body penetrates and intertwines
with walls in the artist’s studio. The motives of femininity, gender, disruption,
and destruction are recurring themes in Tsabar’s practice.
