In his series Histoire du Consulat et de l'Empire, Dor Guez presents nine prints based on French atlases from 1886. The artist connects various territories that once comprised the French Empire, manipulating the maps by transforming them from square to circular shapes and removing all human markers. Without these text and geographical references, the maps lose their specific origins, making them "dysfunctional" in terms of orientation. Guez then creates an overlay of these manipulated circular maps, assembling them through their waterways and rivers, resulting in a lace-like image that weaves the territories together.
