Marianne Berenhaut: A house is not a home'

Alkinois, Athens, Greece

Dvir Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of A House is Not A Home, a new exhibition by Marianne Bernhaut, curated by Georgia Rene-Worms. The exhibition will open on Tuesday, September 17th at 8 p.m.

Marianne Berenhaut, born in 1934, Brussels, lives and works between Brussels and London. Through a vast body of work spanning 60 years, Marianne Berenhaut has created a unique visual language addressing themes of nostalgia, trauma, absence, and memory. Her sculptures are composed of objects found in her immediate surroundings. As Nadine Plateau writes in conversation with Marianne Berenhaut: "Throughout her career, she has gathered and balanced, often precariously, used or even broken objects, which she has continually tended to, mended, and regenerated with both gravity and tenderness, regardless of the materials employed. This is because, following a serious accident that forever prevented her from handling heavy objects, she had to invent a new way to sculpt."

"A House is Not A Home" presents both foundational pieces, such as the Poupées poubelles, 1971-1980, and traces her work through pieces from the 1980s-1990s, including the series Vie Privée, up to her most recent pieces. By showcasing sculptures from various eras, this exhibition is conceived as a perspective rather than a retrospective.
