Press News: Dor Guez in conversation with Sara Reisman

"Memorializing stories" for BOMB Magazine

Dor Guez was recently interviewed by curator Sara Reisman for Bomb Magazine. Their conversation offers an in-depth look at Guez’s practice, which draws from personal and collective archives to challenge conventional narratives and expose the politics of representation in a region marked by conflict and displacement.

In the interview, Guez reflects on works that transform everyday objects and photographs into powerful meditations on exile, belonging, and erasure — from his grandfather’s looted home in Lydda to pressed-flower albums made for tourists in the so-called “Holy Land.” He also discusses his latest video installation, White Flag, created in response to the ongoing tragedy in Gaza, weaving together personal testimony and historical fragments.

As Guez explains, his artistic process is inseparable from the violent, cyclical history that continues to shape the lives of those around him:  "Many of my works have been shaped by the horrifying realities of relentless, bleeding catastrophes. I can't claim to have something new to say. I exist in a state of response". This sense of urgent, lived engagement with history — both intimate and collective — permeates Guez’s work, offering a powerful reflection on the weight of memory and the impossibility of distance.
