Since the mid-1990s, Maljković has used painting as a flexible framework that extends into objects, videos, and installations. At Cukrarna Gallery, painting is no longer a backdrop or mediator, but a speaking voice.
The works on view, produced since 2017, create visual constellations that connect defined and undefined forms, chaos and order, figure and ground—echoing Deleuze’s reflections on painting. These layers give shape to dynamic relationships between space and time.
Maljković also continues his engagement with the legacy of the (South-) Eastern European avant-garde, linking past and present. Painting becomes a “guardian of time,” revealing an open, folding temporality that runs throughout the exhibition.
