This fall, CC Strombeek will host the first Belgian solo exhibition by Palestinian artist Aysha E Arar, featuring a new series of large-scale paintings, a performance, and a video work.
Working across painting, video, performance, and poetry, Arar draws from Palestinian folklore and personal experience, creating a language that merges the mythical and the political. Her paintings move between abstraction and narrative, inhabited by imagined creatures rooted in oral traditions and dreams. At the heart of her practice is a deep interrogation of identity and the lived reality of occupation.
The central figure in this new body of work is The Woman Warrior on a Horse—a powerful symbol of resistance, memory, and freedom. Embodying both personal and collective struggle, the figure reflects the artist’s ongoing exploration of what it means to live, fight, and create under systems of oppression.
