Junkerhaus by Karen Russo, 2021
Junker (1850-1912) dedicated his life to building his house in Lemgo, Germany, cocooning himself within a maze of elaborate wood carvings which extended over furniture, floors and into all corners like a spider’s web. It was designed as a family home but he lived there by himself. The film plays with reflected and projected light to animate, warp and dissolve the heavy wooden surfaces and structures. ‘I approached the house as an organic body that functions outside of time,’ says Russo
