"The USA Made From the Remains of Other Worlds II" is a flag of the United States of America with the country's map sewn in its center. In a patchwork style, each state is made from a different 'residue' - a scrap of fabric - that Jonathan Monk has assembled to reconstruct their borders. Using various leftovers, ranging from a tie to a football jersey, from grandma's fabric to the yellow vest (since 2018, a symbol of the French social protest movement), the artist parodies Alighiero Boetti's famous 'Mappa' series. Boetti used the flag of each country to fill their respective geopolitical borders, while Monk humorously presents a country that is disjointed, diverse, and consumer-oriented.
