Marianne Berenhaut born 1934, Brussels, Belgium. Lives and works in Brussels and London.
For over six decades, Marianne Berenhaut has been gathering, curating, and transforming objects from her immediate surroundings, creating powerful yet delicate sculptures and installations.
‘À chacun sa taille’ was born from an act of salvaging. Upon learning that a Belgian mirror factory was closing, Berenhaut ‘rescued’ the mirror scraps that were set to be discarded. These fragments—too small to have ever existed as individual objects—are the remnants, the borders, the overlooked.
Here, Berenhaut reassembles 150 mirror fragments, allowing them to form a collective whole. The work speaks to ideas of identity, imperfection, and the possibility of completion through multiplicity.
