Born 1979, Haifa, Israel. Lives and works in Tel Aviv.
Netally Schlosser, primarily known for her paintings, has since 2018 pursued an ambitious and experimental project titled “Symmetry and Stone”, in which she engages with ancient archaeological and geological materials using cutting-edge technologies. The project began with a stone Schlosser discovered on the banks of the Yarmouk River, a fragment from a nearby archaeological dig. She scanned the stone, digitally split it in half, mirrored one side, and reassembled the parts to create a single, unified entity. Printed in 3D, the work revealed both the inherent symmetry of natural forms and, through the mirrored union, the emergence of a figurative face. In this process, abstraction in nature transforms into figurative representation, while the incision in the stone acts as a “gate to ancient ritual realms,” unlocking the latent information and temporal depth embedded within it—a concept Schlosser describes as “hyperinformation with inconceivable power and age.”
Schlosser’s work has been exhibited in numerous institutions and has received multiple grants and awards, including the Rappaport Prize for a Young Artist from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Mozes Prize for Painting. Her solo exhibitions include La Guardia at Sommer Gallery (Tel Aviv), Erika at The Jerusalem Artists’ House, and Orchestra at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Since 2004, she has participated in over 35 group exhibitions in Israel and internationally, including at the Israel Museum (Jerusalem), Tel Aviv Museum of Art, Haifa Museum of Art, and Neu Münster (Germany). Notably, she took part in Love Me Tender at Van de Weghe Gallery (Antwerp), exhibiting alongside Louise Bourgeois and Kiki Smith.
