Stolpersteine is an installation referencing to Gunter Demnig’s ongoing memorial art project in 610 cities across Europe. Stolpersteine (‘stumbling blocks’) are small commemorative brass plaques inserted in sidewalks in front of the former residencies of Nazism’s victims. By recreating single sets of new stolpersteine from concrete and brass, as free elements and without an engraving, Schlesinger disconnects the objects from their historical function (seen in the work of Gunter Demnig). This action creates a realm of possibility in which every name could be inscribed and function as a possible warning to the future.
