Sigalit Landau born 1969, Jerusalem, Israel. Lives and works in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Landau is an interdisciplinary artist who works with installation, video, photography, sculpture and painting. Her ongoing Dead Sea art project, a magnum opus, comprises artworks in diverse media. In Landau’s creative process the materials change states, transgress cultural categories of obedience, and are doomed eternally to salt. Her art pieces are cultivated with salt crystals, like an oyster farm, using an organic process to transform mundane, everyday, usually useless artifacts into objects of mesmerizing and haunting beauty. For Landau, the Dead Sea is a mystical, enchanted site. One with significance from her past, dominating her presence, and marking the future. It is where creative rituals are performed that transform her used objects into works of art. 
 
Landau’s work has been displayed in many solo exhibitions among the places; Israel Museum, Jerusalem, Israel; Kunstfest Weimar, Weimar, Germany; Rubin Museum, Tel Aviv, Israel; Museum der Moderne, Salzburg, Austria; Place des Arts, Musée d’art Contemporain de Montréal, Canada; MACBA, Barcelona, Spain; Israeli Pavilion, 54th Biennale, Venice, Italy; MoMA - The Museum of Modern Art, New York City, NY, USA. Throughout her career, Landau has received significant awards including the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship, the Wolf foundation Ingeborg Bachman Scholarship, established by Anselm Kiefer, the Nathan Gottesdiener Foundation Israeli Art Award, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Sandberg Prize for Israeli Art, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, French Republic Chevalier decoration of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, among others.
